When choosing a mortgage provider, be sure you know what you’re getting.  All of our Mortgage Originators are licensed – not just “registered”. 

What’s the difference?  In order to be licensed, a Mortgage Originator must pass rigorous Federal and State tests administered by the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.   They must also have completed a certain amount of education involving specific mortgage program guidelines, fraud detection and prevention, Federal laws and guidelines, ethics, State requirements, Fair and Equal Credit and Lending Laws, Non-traditional loan products … the list goes on and on. A “registered mortgage originator” has to do none of these things!  They have not had to prove any amount of knowledge or competence regarding the business of originating mortgages and placing borrowers in the best loan for their needs. The powers that be simply know who they are.  Period.  That’s a huge difference – a difference the “registered’s” don’t want you to know about or pay attention to.

So … before committing to working with someone on one of the biggest financial transactions of your life, be sure to ask, “Are you licensed or are you just registered?”
